How to Control Unwanted Facial Hair

Removing unwanted facial hair can be a drag, but it doesn’t have to be overly complicated or painful. The skin on your face is more delicate than the skin elsewhere on your body, and you’ll want to know what your options are before you decide on what’s right for you.

You may have been told by someone that this method or that method is the best, and that might be true – for them. But, all faces are different and not everyone’s skin responds to the same treatment equally. Below are a few of your options and what you may expect.

Tweezing

Tweezing is the simplest and least expensive way to deal with unwanted facial hair. It lasts for about two weeks and it can be great if you have a few errant hairs you want to be rid of. However, the more hair you want to remove, the worse tweezing gets.

Tweezing is tedious and painful. It can be an effective, but for more than a few hairs, you might want to look into something more significant.

Shaving

Shaving is a quick and easy way anyone can remove unwanted hair from their face. If you’ve ever heard some of the urban legends about shaving, like that it makes your hair grow in thicker and darker, don’t worry. None of those are true. Shaving is great if you need to remove a significant amount of hair from a relatively small area.

The downside to shaving is that its hair removal effects don’t last long (one to three days) and it can result in razer burn, inflamed follicles, or ingrown hairs.

Waxing

Waxing lasts three to four weeks and can work wonders for your body. Facial hair can be another story though. As mentioned, your face is much more delicate than the skin on your body and the heat and pulling necessary to wax your face might be too much – especially if you have a significant amount of facial hair.

(Semi)Permanent Hair Removal

Laser hair removal is an excellent option if you want to get rid of unwanted facial hair without having to deal with it again in the near future. You can permanently reduce your unwanted facial hair after four to six treatments. However, you might need touch-ups every six to 12 months.
